How to overcome the Barbed Wire Crawl obstacle.

    barbed wire crawl obstacle

The Barbed Wire Crawl obstacle is the slowest, and its difficult depends on a variety of causes.

They can be the slope, the barbed wire height and if the terrain is mud or rocky hard.

Some of you asked me about the barbed wire crawl length, well, there is no answer because the length vary from race to race.

Let's go see some barbed wire crawl tips.

Barbed wire height: if it is high, you can even try a low bear position. If it is a medium or low height, you'll have two option.

    1. 1st method is to crawl on your hands/elbows and on your knees, like a soldier. The con is that you will likely end up with cuts, especially if the terrain is hard.
    2. 2nd method is to roll, doing so you'll save energy, as well as some less cut. The con, if you suffer from nausea, it can get you feeling dizzy and disoriented.

I suggest the rolling but look at where you puts your feet when there is a lot of people.

Slope: it doesn't really matter, use your preferred technique.

Terrain: mud is better, you can easily roll and probably there won't be too many cutting rocks. On the contrary, if it is hard, look where you put your extremities. Although it will be hard to avoid cuts.

Useful tips to conquer the Barbed Wire Crawl

    barbed wire crawl
    • Choose a side, because there the barbed wire will be a little higher and if it is mud the sides will be less muddy than the middle.
    • Always roll if you can to conserve energy.
    • If the obstacle is early on in the race, energy should be conserved, if it is at the end then an all-out effort is required.
    • Always stay LOW! The barbed wire cuts!
    • Switch sides to avoid dizziness while crawling. Every 10 rolls sit up and switch the direction that you’re rolling. This should help to offset the dizziness.
    • Be respectful to people around you.
    • To avoid cutting and or infecting yourself is to put a layer between your skin and the wire, look at our compression shirts and shorts reviews.
